Man sentenced to 2 years in prison in Whiteside County meth case — Elgin Business news

A Clinton, Iowa, man was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to unlawfully possessing meth in Sterling earlier this year.Under a plea deal, Jack D. Mowery Jr., 45, pleaded guilty to one count of meth possession in exchange for the dismissal of one count each of retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. All offenses were alleged to have occurred Jan. 18 in Sterling, when a Sterling police officer saw a man, later identified as Mowery, peeking into a business window late that night, according to Whiteside County Judge James Heuerman. Mowery was wanted on a warrant; a search of his person found the drug, as well as a Reebok Laptop backpack, two wireless headphones, and one cable that prosecutors said he had stolen from the Sterling Walmart, according to court documents.Mowery faced two to 10 years in prison with the possibility of an enhanced sentence that could have doubled the maximum sentence because he has a previous meth conviction, Heuerman said.I
